In short
Tap the card with your phone, wait for the profile to open and press “Add to Contacts”. On iPhone the ready contact appears and you save it with one tap. On Android the phone downloads a contact file, which you open and save to Contacts.
On iPhone
- Hold the top of the iPhone to the card while the screen is on.
- Tap the notification that appears. The profile opens in Safari.
- Press “Add to Contacts”. The ready contact appears, with the photo.
- Save it as a new contact.
On Android
- Unlock the phone and hold the middle of its back to the card.
- The profile opens in the browser, usually Chrome.
- Press “Add to Contacts”. The phone downloads a contact file.
- Open the file and choose Contacts to save it.
The exact labels depend on the phone brand and the browser, but the steps are the same.
If the profile opens in Instagram or Messenger
The built-in browsers of some apps don’t allow file downloads. Open the profile in Safari or Chrome from the app’s menu (“Open in browser”) and press “Add to Contacts” again.
From a QR code
Open the camera and point it at the code. Tap the link that appears and follow the steps above. If the code holds the contact itself (a vCard), the phone offers to add it straight away.
From a paper business card
On iPhone, point the camera at the card: Live Text recognises the phone number and email, and you can tap them. On Android, Google Lens recognises the text and often offers to add a contact. Check the names and numbers before you save.
How to send a contact on Viber
Open the chat, tap “+” or “…” next to the message field and choose “Contact”. Pick the person from your contacts and send it.
How to send your own contact back
If the profile has “Send me your contact”, tap it and enter your name, and a phone and email if you like. The card’s owner receives them by email.
