In short
Check whether the card works without an app and has a QR code, whether you can change your details yourself with no reprint, whether there is a monthly fee, who does the design, what the chip holds, whether you get the other person’s contact, and how long delivery takes.
8 things to check
Does it work without an app?
The other person shouldn’t have to install anything. The profile should open straight in the browser on iPhone and Android.
Is there a QR code?
Not every phone has NFC. A QR code on the back means nobody is left without your contact.
Can you change your details yourself?
A new phone or title shouldn’t mean a new card. Check that the profile can be edited without reprogramming the chip.
Is there a monthly fee?
Some services charge for the profile every month. Work out the cost over one or two years, not just the card.
Who does the design?
The card is the first impression. Check that the design follows your logo and colours and that you approve a proof before printing.
What does the chip hold?
Ideally only a link. Then your details live in the profile, which you can change or pause if the card is lost.
Do you get their contact too?
Contact exchange gives you the contact of the people you meet, not only them yours.
How long does it take?
If you have an event soon, check the time for the proof, printing and delivery.
